Take Ivy - Teruyoshi Hayashida
A few parcels of books have arrived this week with plenty of exciting new titles inside. But I was especially pleased when I got home today to find that my copy of the recently reprinted Take Ivy had arrived.
This book has attained something of a cult status in both the photography and fashion worlds. Originally published in 1965, Take Ivy was responsible for popularising the American “Ivy” style of dressing amongst Japanese students.
There’s something quite satisfying about looking at photos of happy, well dressed students enjoying life while I’m sat in my study looking out on a cold autumn evening. Autumn (or “Fall” if you will) is synonymous with new academic years, the new term, new school and college classes, new stationery, new clothes. What better time of year to be reading Take Ivy?
This reprint is an almost exact copy of the original, Where there are differences they are very small, and although this printing will never be worth what an original is be worth, I’m pleased to have it in my collection.
