Familiar British Wildlife - Clive Landen
I bought this because I (and probably many other people) had the idea of photographing road kill but had never actually got round to it. This is probably a good thing - I’m not sure how easy it would be to explain my behaviour to people that I was travelling with when I got out to photograph (another) dead rabbit.
So it’s good that Clive has gone to all that trouble. Very kind of him to take the effort to ensure that the results are pleasing to the eye, even if the subject matter is a little stomach churning (although to be fair the scariest thing in this book is the back cover which is a particularly lurid shade of pink).
I suppose the general concept is one we’ve seen many times - the repulsive turned fine art. But I like this book. It’s like a spotter’s guide to wildlife in which someone swapped all the illustrations. It’s a big book and apparently the prints were displayed even larger - life size - so that would have been worth checking out too.
Definitely one to leave out for guests to flick through :)
