You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) - Lewis Chaplin
From the website:
You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) is a book of new work from 2010. It’s a selection of photos coupled with found words and objects – putting the sourced and decontextualised alongside original works.
I received my copy yesterday and spent a good bit of time looking through it. First, I think it’s a happy reflection on the resources available to us that an individual can produce a book of this quality, in a very limited quantity and still make it available to buy for just £15. 10 years ago that would simply not have been possible.
The work on show here is quite mixed. I suppose this is partly what happens when you elect to combine found words and objects with your own original work - you have no control over what you find (although you do choose what you use).
Some of the photographs are really nice by themselves (with great light - always good to see!) whilst others work with the words to present a different context.
Mine came with a photocopy/print which was particularly relevant to me and brought back some good memories.
You should definitely check this one out - Lewis has done a good job with it.
