Stil Licht - Ananda Serné
A little while ago I mentioned the online shop fourteen-nineteen, and recently they sent me a bundle of books/zines I’d ordered from them.
In this bundle was Stil Licht, a rather wonderful collection of images from Ananda Serné.
Part of the ‘her ghosts books’ series (described as a collection of female artists in the world. it comes from a girl’s inside and dreams), I found the images to be both beautiful and a bit creepy. I don’t know if it was the mention of the word ghost, but looking back through the book with that word in my mind, I saw a lot that I didn’t see first time round.
The photographs also contain what could be described as ‘good morning light’ - that most magical of lights when the day hasn’t quite woken up yet, and you have the world to yourself. Probably my favourite time of day for making pictures.
I think different people will see something different in this collection of work. I do like it, but I also find it a little bit unsettling at the same time. Still, I’m glad to own it and I look forward to hearing other people’s thoughts about it.
